John Cunningham – Camp Director
For the 46th consecutive year, Coach Cunningham is conducting these camps with the main objective of developing youth soccer in the United States. He is the former Head Coach of the Bethany Men’s Soccer team. In Cunningham’s 33 years at the helm of Bethany, his teams won the 1994 National Championship, 1995 and 1997 ECAC Championships, 1996 Mid- Atlantic Championship, participated in 17 NCAA tournaments, 28 President’s Athletic Conference titles, and produced 51 All-Americans. While Head Coach, Bethany soccer was recognized for having one of the highest winning percentages of any college during the 1980s and 1990s, further testimony to Coach Cunningham’s philosophy… “Tradition of Excellence.”
Frank Christy – Camp Coordinator
Along with Cunningham, Frank developed Bethany Soccer Camps into one of the most successful and influential programs in the nation. Frank’s innovative approach to the week-long structure has long been well-accepted by the coaching staff and thousands of players who have attended Bethany Soccer Camps. A Fox Chapel High School and Bethany College Athletic Hall of Famer, Frank has more wins than any active coach in girls’ high school soccer in Pennsylvania, with over 400 wins. His coaching stint at Hampton High School ranks fifth among ninety-five teams for overall winning percentage in Western Pennsylvania.
Frankie Taal - returns to Bethany College after 16 seasons at North Carolina Wesleyan. Taal graduated from Bethany in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and spent over a decade around the men’s and women’s programs. He served five seasons as the men’s assistant coach and led the women’s program for a season. During his time at Bethany College, Taal was a two-time PAC All-Conference First Team selection and was a critical member of the Bison’s 1994 Division III National Championship team.
Taal’s N.C. Wesleyan tenure as both an assistant and a head coach has seen the Bishops turn in a 214-93-26 overall record, including five regular season USA South Championships, three USA South Tournament Championships, five NCAA Tournament berths, and two NCAA Sweet 16 appearances. In 2017, Taal enjoyed his best season at the helm of the program with a 15-6 overall record won their second consecutive regular season league title, first conference tournament title and a bid to the NCAA tournament.
Fred Parker – former Brockport State Coach, Empire State Soccer Club – 12 plus years as Bethany Soccer Camp Coach. Excellent coach with both youth and high school players.
Jonathon Hoover – former Alfred State University Soccer Coach. A goalkeeper while in college, a collegiate coach and High School girls varsity coach.
Jay O’Donnell – a 2019 Bethany graduate and Assistant men’s Coach. O’Donnell collected All-PAC First Team honors in his senior season and led the Bison with 13 points, five goals, and three assists. The senior midfielder accounted for three game winning goals.
Jay has experience coaching as a student assistant and recruiter for the Bethany College women’s soccer team, and coach for the Victory Express Soccer Club. Prior to Bethany, O’Donnell played at Radyr Comprehensive in Cardiff, Wales and earned All-Region along with multiple team honors.
Ryan Huber – is in his third season as the Head Men’s Soccer coach at William Peace University. Prior to his position at William Peace University, Ryan served as the assistant Men’s coach at North Carolina Wesleyan College. Huber also served as the Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at Louisburg College from 2008-2011 and at Guilford College in 2008 . In 2016, Ryan served as the Director and Head Coach for the Tar River Youth Soccer Association in Rocky Mount, NC
Huber’s camp experience includes NC Wesleyan College, University of South Carolina, UNC, Duke University, Wake Forest University, Hampden Sydney College, Randolph Macon College, Mary Washington University, Louisburg College and University of Mount Olive.
Ryan holds an Advance National License and a Level 1 Goalkeeper License
Meir Lewin – Head Men’s Soccer Coach at North Carolina Wesleyan College. Prior to this season, Meir served as the Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at North Carolina Wesleyan College under former Head Coach Frankie Taal. Meir also served as assistant coach at Mary Washington University (VA) and two seasons at Washington College (MD). Meir played professionally in Israel from 2007 to 2011 and holds a US Soccer D License.
Alyssa Finelli – enters her second season as the Bethany Bison coach with the challenge of building a competitive soccer program.
As the Assistant Women’s coach at Seton Hill, the Griffins finished with twelve wins and advanced to the PSAC Tournament for the first time in school history. Before Seton Hill, Finelli spent one season at Arcadia University as assistant coach where she helped lead the Knights to a 17-4 record and the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth since 2005.
The past two summers Alyssa played for the Lehigh Valley Tempest in the Women’s Premier Soccer League. As a collegiate player, Finelli was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter for the NCAA Division I Lafayette College women’s soccer team. She made appearances in all but six games throughout her career as an attacker.
The Easton, Pa. native attended Easton Area High School, where she was a two-time Express-Times Player of the Year (2009, 2011) three-time conference all-star as Easton’s all-time leader in goals, assists and points and inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame the year after graduation.
Shelly Saba – Excellent technical trainer and coach. A Western PA standout at Mt. Lebanon High School (All American), ODP Regional Tam (4 years), PA West ODP (6 years). Shelly played collegiate soccer at Boston College (4 years and Captain Senior year) before returning to Western PA and distinguishing an outstanding coach career. Duquesne University Head Coach (9 years), Asst. Coach Mt. Lebanon (6 years), Head Coach Upper St. Clair HS (3 years), Pittsburgh Football Club PFC (2 years), Beadling Soccer Club (5 years), Bethany Soccer Camps and various other soccer camps.
A.J. Walhai – Ohio Northern University Women’s Staff and High School Coach. A graduate of Bethany College (54 appearances and All-PAC Academic) and Bethany Soccer Camp coach (7 years). A young coach dedicated to providing creative instruction to youth and high school programs. A.J. played in London while studying abroad and has international experience with coach from England, Scotland, Gambia and holds several USSF National License.
Chuck Neighoff– A Baltimore native, graduate of Patapsco High School and Essex Community College. Chuck played at Bethany College and 5 years All-Army. His coaching includes a USS F.C. License, Coerver Youth Diploma. Locally Chuck has assisted with recruitment for Bethany College and Bethany Soccer Camps, girls coach at Linsly School.
Lamine Balde – Currently the Intern Assistant Coach for the Washington & Jefferson men’s soccer program. Prior to W&J Balde served two years as a graduate assistant with his alma mater, Bethany College. During the past four years, Balde coached at various youth soccer levels including Arsenal Football Club, (ages 13-16), FC Pittsburgh Soccer Club (ages 4-16) and Soccer7 Training Program (ages 4-16).
After graduation from Bethany, Balde played with the Pittsburgh HotSpurs, three seasons with the Fort Pitt Regiment, Indy Eleven. and trained with the 1st team (USL Pro).
